Paediatrician Dr Seema Jilani has spent her career helping victims – particularly children – in conflict and disaster zones. Her work has taken her to Afghanistan, Iraq, the Balkans, Sudan, Gaza and the West Bank. She has treated migrants on board rescue ships in the Mediterranean, and responded on the scene after the 2020 explosion in the Port of Beirut, Lebanon. Most recently, she has spent time in Gaza treating children injured during the ongoing conflict; she has since briefed the UN Security Council as well as senior White House officials on her work there.
